Pond
filters are probably the most important component of a successful koi or fish pond to help keep your
pond water clean and clear. They are not a "silver bullet" for healthy
water, but the benefits they provide are important, such as removing fish waste
and fish food as in the case of fish ponds, removing debris and protecting
pumps from said debris and also helping to filter out nutrients that can be used
to fuel algae blooms.
All of our filter kits, systems are equipped with
both mechanical filtration and biological filtration. The mechanical filtration
component in our filter kits utilizes coarse sponges to trap and hold debris
that is pulled in by the pump. Mechanical filtration is best for the
removal of larger waste particles. The biological filtration involves the
use of beneficial microorganisms or bacteria to biologically degrade and break
down waste and also convert toxic ammonia into less harmful nitrite and then
eventually nitrate. In our kits there are separate chambers where these
microorganisms colonize and as the water passes through them, they filter out
the waste that was not captured by the mechanical filter.
Most of the pond filters below
are complete with matching pond
pumps, however pond pumps can be purchased
independently.
