Pond pumps
are used to move and circulate water throughout a pond. Pond pumps are needed to
run pond
filters
, supply water to
waterfalls and to power fountains. Depending upon the size and needs of your
pond, an external or submersible pump will be needed.
Our submersible pumps are generally going to best
suited for smaller ponds and water gardens less than 4000 gallons and are the
simplest to install, while our external pond pumps are going to be better for
larger ponds as they are more energy efficient but require a little more
planning to install. Our external pond pumps can handle ponds up to 10,000
gallons.
If you have
never purchased a pond pump, you will need to know the gallons of water your
pond holds. You can use our Pond Calculator to help you if you do not
know. Once you know the volume of your pond, you will want to select a
pump that will circulate your volume of water at least once per hour. For
instance, if your pond is 2000 gallons, you will need a pump with at least 2000
GPH (gallons per hour) rating. Remember it is always better to go
bigger.
